Clever Dripper
A drip with a valve: coffee infuses as in a press and, when supported in the cup, is filtered by paper. Easy and constant.
- Indicative price
- €20–45
- Capacity
- 1–2 tazas
- Grind
- Medium-coarse
The Clever Dripper looks like a drip cone, but it has a valve in the bottom that is kept closed while on the table. So coffee infuses in the water as long as you want. By supporting it on a cup or a jar, the valve opens and the coffee is filtered by a paper.
It is a hybrid between immersion and filter: the sweet and round taste of the press with paper cleaning. For starters, first, give 350 g of water at 94-96 ° C, then 22 g of medium-thick coffee, remove, cover and wait 2 minutes. Then put it on the cup: it will come down in a minute, more or less.
- In favor: very constant and almost without technique.
- In favor: sweet cup, body and clean.
- Please use normal conical filters.
- Against: it is made of plastic and occupies more than a cone.
- Against: something less brilliant than a well-poured drip.
It costs €20-30. The Hario Switch (€30-45) does the same with a lever and allows you to move from dive to drip. Check that you admit the filters you already use.
Cheapest alternative: a French press with a fine colator, or simply a Melitta cone.
This coffee bar runs on coffee… literally. And the odd ko‑fi.
