A portable espresso is a small manual machine: you put hot water, ground coffee and strength. Some, like the Picopresso, generate pressure with a piston you pump with your hand; others, Flair type, with a lever. They get to 9 bars and give a real espresso, with cream.
They need fresh boiled water, preheat the pieces and a fine grinder. The recipe is the usual: 16-18 g of coffee for about 36 g of drink.
- In favor: real espresso for much less money than a machine.
- It fits in a backpack and doesn't need a plug.
- Against: one cup at a time and a lot of work.
- Against: it does not steam for milk, and the temperature depends on how well it preheat.
Guidance prices from €130 to €350; the Picopresso, about €130-160. See that it has a pressure gauge or gauge, unpressurized shell and easy to clean parts.
Cheapest alternative: a moka or an AeroPress give a concentrated coffee, although it is not espresso.
This coffee bar runs on coffee… literally. And the odd ko‑fi.
