Capsule coffee maker
Coffee dosed into capsules that the machine perfuses and extracts. Quick and clean, but face by cup and with a lot of waste.
- Indicative price
- €80–300
- Capacity
- 1 taza
The capsule cafes, such as those of the Nespresso or Dolce Gusto systems, use closed capsules with about 5-6 g of ground coffee. The machine pours them, puts the water under pressure, and the drink comes out in seconds. You don't have to molest, dosify, or clean up pores.
It's the easiest way to have an acceptable short coffee at home. In return, coffee has been ground for some time, the dose is small and each cup comes out quite a lot more expensive than with coffee in grain.
- In favor: very fast, clean and unlearned.
- In favor: cheap and small machines.
- Against: high cost per cup.
- Against: one waste capsule in each coffee; recycles aluminium at its point of collection.
- Against: coffee is never fresh ground.
The machines cost €80-300. Before choosing, look at the variety of compatible capsules and if there are reusable capsules that you can fill with your own coffee.
Cheapest alternative in the long run: a moka or an AeroPress with fresh coffee.
This coffee bar runs on coffee… literally. And the odd ko‑fi.
