Caterra
Dwarf mutation of the Bourbon discovered in Brazil in 1937: compact, productive and with a bright and light cup.
In the cup
- Citrus
- Apple
Caturra appeared in Brazil in 1937 as a natural mutation of Bourbon. Its great feature is the size: it is a dwarf and compact plant. This allows you to plant more trees on the same ground and harvest more comfortably.
That is why it was extended by many producer countries and was the basis for the modernization of many farms, although it is sensitive to the roya.
In the cup it is bright, with living acidity and body lighter than Bourbon. Well grown in height gives clean and happy coffee.
Caturra is also the mother of many modern varieties:
- Catuai: World Novo and Caturra crossing.
- Castle: the line of Caturra with the Hybrid of Timor.
- Catimor: Capture × Hybrid from Timor.
His Salvadoran cousin, Pacas, is another dwarf mutation of Bourbon with a similar history.
If you see it on the label, think of a filter coffee: V60, Kalita or drip coffee maker, with your own city.
This coffee bar runs on coffee… literally. And the odd ko‑fi.
