Typica is the starting point of much of the Arabic that is grown in America and Asia. According to the most repeated history, he left Yemen for Java, and from there he traveled to the Caribbean and Latin America. The historical cafes of Jamaica and Kona are Typica.

It is a tall tree that produces little and suffers from diseases, like the roya. That is why many farms have been changing it for more profitable varieties. But she's still alive where quality is premium.

In the cup, Typica is clean, sweet and delicate, with good clarity. It's not the most lush, but it's one of the most elegant.

  • Direct descendants: Bourbon (mutation on the island of La Reunion) and Maragogipe (mutation in Brazil).
  • known crosses: Mundo Novo (Typica × Bourbon).
  • Low productivity.

If you find a high Typica, prepare it in V60 or Chemex with clear weave or city. It is a good reference to understand what the "classic" Arabic knows.
