Cocktail
To shake with ice and get cold drinks with foam: shakerate, espresso martini or espresso fredo.
- Indicative price
- €10–40
- Capacity
- 500–750 ml
The cockpit shakes the drink with ice: it cools it very fast, it dilutes it a little and it gets air. With a newly made espresso, that air forms a dense and persistent foam. It is the basis of the shakerate, the espresso martini and the espresso freddo.
Fill it with ice up to a little over half, add the coffee and the rest of the ingredients, close well and shake strong 10-20 seconds. Then you can hang the drink with a fine strainer so that they don't pass the ice pieces.
- In favor: cheap and very versatile.
- In favor: cold foam that is not otherwise achieved.
- Against: with hot coffee, the lid can be released; hold it well when stirring.
- Against: another jar to wash.
Guidance prices from 10 to 40 €. The three-piece, with a built-in colator, is the easiest; the two-piece, Boston type, closes better. Choose stainless steel and about 500-750 ml.
Cheapest alternative: a glass jar with a well-closed screw cap.
This coffee bar runs on coffee… literally. And the odd ko‑fi.
